In what way are they different if I pray to God or to them?
I have seen Angels names that are prayed to and I don't understand the difference.
I know God made them...but for what purpose?

Angels are God's messengers. They do what God tells them to do. They're not patron saints. My impression is that they don't respond to people's bidding - only to God's. I never understood why anyone would pray to anyone else when the way to God, Himself, is wide open.

That's how I feel. If I need something, I go straight to God Himself.
I've heard there are Angels for Strength, Wisdom, Protection, Employment, Health, etc.
I dunno. I also believe in Guardian Angels but when I pray, it is God I'm praying to.

Yes, I also believe in guardian angels, but they guard because it's their job and they do what God tells them to do. Frankly, if I had a body guard, I would be much more confident in them if they did what they thought was right according to their professional expertise than if they did what I asked them to do.
I'll talk to God, and let Him decide what angels involved with me will do.

In Hebrews it tells us to come boldly to the thorne of grace to find help in the time of need. I go directly to God, put my full trust in him and let him do what needs to be done, Angles are his helper, messengers, and do what he tells them to do.
