Today, something amazing happened...I got offered an internship for when my time comes and I haven't started grad school yet! That's unheard of, around here anyway. Grad students who have completed the first year have a hard time finding interns placements, and this one was just offered to me by the supervisor of the counseling center. I was stunned! She asked me to get in touch with her the semester before my internship will begin and she will set it up. It's in rape crisis, which isn't my target area, but I know it will be invaluable experience and there are often kids involved there too, which is my focus. Plus, I have to believe God set that in motion.
Way to go Karlie! God is so amazing! I'm glad to hear this news.

Do any of you all have a good resource for Turabian citation style? I am currently writing a paper in which I need to cite the commentary part of the Qu'ran, so I am trying to find out how to do that exactly.

I returned to academia after a long break. I just graduated with (2) four year degrees from the University of Tn. one was in philosophy and one in history.
I did this as a single dad with a 10 year old. We had to live on campus. I remember when we got our apartment looking at the block walls and saying, “I will never recoup from this”
I did and graduated with honors.
If I can go back to school at my age and I am no rocket scientist. Everyone who reads this post should know the only limitations in you going back to school is your self.

It wasn't originally begun as a support thread just for just grad students, but for older, returning students. "Older (Returning) Student Support Thread" was the original title of the thread. I'm not sure why that was changed...it wasn't changed until page 8. There are many of us posting here that are still finsihing up our undergrad work, so you are welcome!
I hope no one minds, but I'm going to change the thread title back to it's original which was for all returning students. It's very confusing when someone sees it on active topics and it says one thing, then it's another severals pages down the line. Besides, there are several of us in undergrad posting here before that got changed.

I am not a grad student. LOL Goodness! Taking ONE CLASS a semester I'll do good to have my associates before my 9yo has his!

you and me both. how are y'all doing? well, I passed the APA exam. I am allowed to miss eight and I missed eight, but that is still passing. and tonight i turn in an Information Literacy Assignment. now that I've passed the APA, I feel a major weight has been lifted.
good luck to y'all, because this is hard work keeping it all together, doing homework, going to classes. gotta go.

Hi - let me clear up the confusion! I started the thread when I started graduate school. So, thinking of situation, I originally started it for grad students who were older than the traditional aged student. However, when people started to respond, I very quickly realized that older students - regardless of what degree they are working on - share a lot of the same issues and problems. I didn't want to exclude anyone - and it seems that there are lots of adults who return to school to get undergrad degrees also. And there are also lots of people who return to school to get additional specialized training - not only a college or university education. So I edited the title so that it would be named Older (Returning) Student Support Thread and would include everyone - since we can all learn from and support one another. My guess is that I didn't change it everywhere (because people were responding to posts before I changed the thread - and I was posting too) - so all it takes is one reply to an old message and voila - the old title is back again.
I'm all for keeping one thread that is broad so that everyone can get support. If someone wants to start a seperate grad thread that's cool - but I personally find that I'm learning a lot from people who aren't in grad school but are returning to school in their late 20s, 30s and beyond. I'd hate to lose all of the support and wisdom - I like it when we are all together!

yes, American Psych Association. it's a format for papers. now that I passed I get to do my final paper. lucky me! 35-70 pages.

My first semester at Regent, I found an APA template somewhere on line, and have used it ever since. At one point, I even put together a brief session explaining the benefits of this template to my fellow grad students, complete with a CD that had the template and my lecture notes burned onto it.
Young fogies who refuse to learn the tools of the trade (MS Word, for example) drive me crazy. Imagine my chagrin when I reviewed papers submitted by folks who'd attended this session, and had refused to learn from it. In lieu of a single mouse click, they still "indented" paragraphs with the [Enter] and [Tab] keys ...
Folks, we're talking about students who are 30 years younger than me!

This has been a great thread to read and I have also replied once. It brings back a lot of memories. I was always the oldest in my classes at the university. I will admit to really enjoying going back to obtain my four year degree.
It was stressful being a single parent at the time and working (2) 16 hour shifts on the weekends but I really can’t complain.
My goal was to head to Law School after my undergrad degree but then marriage came along and so did my life changes.
I have two older kids that basically grew up without their father. I was too busy doing military stuff and later working for the government doing military stuff. I kind a want to see my 15 y/o grow up and be there…Ooops I forgot he turned sixteen (3) weeks ago and our auto insurance rates went up along with the few remaining black hairs I had on my head suddenly disappearing
I was accepted into a law school in TN but decided I owed my family more than commuting three days a week to Nashville. I am now praying about some other grad options including teaching on a secondary school level in Mississippi.
I remember the APA format back years ago in nursing school and then all of my History classes and philosophy classes required the Turabian Style of writing and of course the English department was very demanding of MLA Guidelines. My favorite classes were Creative writing, Poetry and Playwriting…lol…no formatting…..
I agree strongly with the above poster in knowing the potential for MS Word. A class in basic computer literacy was required and it was the best class I took. I learned many shortcuts for writing in that class.

Yay! I got a "B" on my test, just barely, but it was a "B." I really anticipated getting a solid "C," so this is good news for me. One more test to go, the Final Exam.
I'm working on next semester's class. Can't get the ones I want and don't want to waste credits. Lord, please grant me wisdom.

Yay, Michelle & Karie! Good news. 
I have to keep reminding myself that I have no one to blame but myself for deciding 18 upper division units was wise. I've been saying a lot of "forgive me Lord for my rotten attitude" prayers lately
