A little movie with a familiar story, anchored by another remarkable performance by Jeff Bridges--an actor that never disappoints.
He plays a honky-tonk C/W singer broken, generous, vain, flirtatious, on his last go-round, and still willing to try again.
There's swearin', smokin', sex, subtlety, and redemption...just like the country-western songs he sings.

My husband summed it up well: "Now I know how people felt when they first saw Star Wars in the theatre."
Absolutely stunning; very preachy twds the end, and most white men will feel that they are under pressure to apologize for being "the oppressor," but if you can put that aside it's well worth seeing. The characters do at least make you care about the plot, so the preachiness could be worse. Still, it's a small flaw that leaves it just shy of a five-star classic.
If you can see it in 3D, or 3D Imax, it's absolutely worth it.

I know what your husband meant.
There has been so much advance chatter, gossip, discussion, speculation about "Avatar," but none of that dampens it's technological impact as the "next, new thing" in movie making. The CGI and much improved motion-capture technology is leagues ahead of anything Robert Zemekis has produced thus far.
That said, the "Culture Warriors" demand that everyone has to interpret the meaning of the story in keeping with the prevailing winds--
1) It is the most meticulous and sumptuous Cowboys and Indians movie I've ever seen
2) It is a Eco/Green rallying cry
3) Like The Matrix/Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Battlestar Riducula/Star Trek/et al, a cluby, costumey, toy-collecting cult will develop
4) It is the "Latest Thing!" and like all media events, it must be attended, or at least attention must be paid
James Cameron's all-encompassing involvement means the story is mostly generic, the tech is over-the-top, the movie makes tons of money, and will garner several awards.
While it's not the worst (or the best) sci-fi movie to come down the road in 2009, that should not be considered a strong endorsement.

Avatar- 'really enjoyed it. Inspite of all that so called hidden agenda, it's a very amazing movie that I just totally ignore them since I was so engrossed with everything that was going on. The movie is over 160 minutes but it did not feel like it was that long. The 3d was all worth it.

"Sherlock Holmes"--as action hero
The story is a little lame, but the action escalates quickly--as in all Guy Richie movies--and you're on your way. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are having a great time.

The Marine 2- Good Film
A Perfect Getaway- Excellent. Verry supriseing twist at the end a swell
9- Cool but way to short
Live- Definetly an interesting one
Paranormal Activity- Good but don't watch the Alternate Ending. Regular ending is so scarry

The Kite Runner- It's a great movie inspite of a disturbing theme since there's hope and resolution at the end. I'm very curious on how it was made close to the book so I think I'll get to the library and borrow the book.

District 9 - I hated it, and my husband felt bad for suggesting we watch it.
Night at the Museum 2 - It had some funny moments, but the first movie was better.

Final Destination- Saw in Theathers and thought it was pretty predictable and short as well.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meetballs- My pick for movie of the week. Verry cute.
World's Greatest Dad- Intersting. Definetly didn't expect it out of a Robin Williams Movie
The Burning Plan- Definely Interesting
Lost City Raiders- Interesting
I watched another one with a bunch of UFC Fighters in it but the name mistakes me right now

Fame- Saw it in Theathers. Just like the old one but updated
The Hurt Locker- Definetly one of the better ones. One of the best war movies I have ever seen
Moon- Good. Definetly a good twist in it as well

Halloween 2: Good movie but definetly on the Strange Side but gotta expect that from Rob Zombie
I Can Do Bad All By Myself: Definelty a good movie
American Grafiti- Good. Wierd to see a young Harrison Ford and a Young Ron Howard
Up In The Air- Was going into it not expecting much but came out of it absolutely loveing it. Definetly get why the oscar buss for it.

Considering the still-active online chatter/debates about Avatar's politicizing, I am reminded of a somewhat similar, groundbreaking movie that is not without political controversy, by the name of The Jazz Singer. Even though it's technically not the first 'talkie' of the silver screen era, it was able to make film tech waves as being the first commercially successful talking motion picture--BUT, not without the infamous blackface scenes involving Al Jolson. In context with Avatar, it may be the biggest box office hit with 3-D filmmaking, but given its eco-sermonizing, anti-corporate/militarist/imperialist messages, this too, will provide film scholars and pundits, ample debate material for generations to come--sans the burned cork that is!

When I first saw the previews in the theatre, and the title, I had no desire to see this animated kids film. There are certain kids movies that I look forward to seeing with my four children, this was not one of them.
So, when we watched it on DVD this past week, I was pleasantly surprised. It was creative, innovative, humorous, and had a great story about going for your dreams - incidentally, what we're learning about at church this month.
Two thumbs up!

2012 - It didn't work for me. Maybe 15 minutes into the movie and I was like ughhh. It played like a made for tv movie and I've seen better.
Ninja Assassin - Lock and Load, blood every which a way, not for the squeamish, there is a bit of profanity like in the first 10 minutes, but that's about it. There were some really cool fight scenes. For it's genre, I think it delivered. It had a good pace. I would like to see more of the Asian guy who played the leading role. I liked him.

I didn't like 2012 either. How are you going to outrun an earthquake? I mean really. And how is there so much devastation, yet all of a sudden you and your family are all smiles because YOU made it out alive. What about the rest of the planet? It was pretty cheesy.
Just watched The Brave One with Jodi Foster. Very dark movie, very violent. Not my cup of tea usually. But I think it did an excellent job of explaining why someone might change from a normal person to a cold-blooded killer. It was a treat to watch Foster and Howard on screen together. And I always enjoy watching Naveen Andrews - but he didn't have a very large role here. I also think it captured post-traumatic stress syndrome pretty well. It was so thought provoking - lots to think and talk about.
Also watched Charlie Wilson's war. Interesting movie. I'd be very interested in knowing the true story behind it and how closely the movie is aligned with actual events.
Now I'm watching Elizabeth the Golden Age. The movie has been on for 10 minutes and she's already noticed Clive Owens and is sort of fawning all over him and he her. This is not a good sign. Didn't she have a kingdom to run and political events to orchestrate and respond to? Sounds like it is going to be some sort of sanitized "harlequin-romance" version of historical events - which I detest. But I have more chores to complete, so I'll use this as a distraction. Maybe it will get better.

New Ones That Come Out Tuesday:
This Is It- The Michael Jackson Documentry (In Case U Forgot). Saw it in Theatres and was amazed on how good it was
Surrogets- Good but definetly on the wierd side
Saw 6- Alot like the other ones but definetly more gorrer
Tennessee- Good. Nice story as well.
The Escapest- Haven't watched it yet but will tomarrio morning though.
