It's only Wednesday, but that's good news! I'm on spring break, and today's my last day of spring break. So I'm enjoying it! (shuckish weather and all)

Pam, just want to let you know I'm thinking of you and praying and wondering how it went with your surgeon yesterday.

The friend I mentioned Monday or Tuesday passed away last night. Bob Coleman was 62. I can't begin to describe him. Bob started out as my barber and, over time, became a good friend. Although I've lived here almost 30 years, Bob was the only businessman to know and greet me by my first name. The last time I saw him, less that 2 weeks ago, Bob gave me a hug like I was family or an old friend. I don't know any other businessman in town well enough to hug... Bob's barbershop reminded me of an old country store in that men came in just to sit and chat. And after customers got to know him, they'd stay and chat after getting a haircut. And, unlike the Current Events folder, we could discuss and/or disagree about politics (or religion) without anyone getting upset or angry. The last time I experienced anything like that was in my hometown barbershop when I was growing up. I'm not just going to miss my friend, I'm going to miss the atmosphere and fellowship of his barbershop.

Euty - so sorry for your loss. We have a few country barber shops around here that also provide a place for man to gather and hang out. They're great.

You are a really good rationalizer, Connie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, things are as good as could be expected, really. My cancer is in stage 1, the lump is small, there are no indication of lymph nodes (although he'll check while in there), and I'm scheduled for a lumpectomy Monday after next, 3/22. I'll have radiation treatments after that (probably no chemo - yay! since I don't want to lose my hair ). Please know that I'm reading everything and praying for y'all, but not responding much because my time is limited (46 minutes as of right now). Good news is they think they've located the problem with my computer (probably video card and not hard drive), so I should have it back soon. Woo hoo! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ quote:
ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon You know people who argue about something and then continue to argue after you've given them the facts? I hate that. Anyway, I had an employee not show up yesterday and when we called her, she insisted she wasn't on the schedule. Okay, mistakes happen. But upon being told that she was indeed supposed to be at work, she didn't apologize and get there as quickly as she could. No, no. Instead she argued that the schedule had been changed, which it hadn't been, and refused to come to work. Guess who ended up having to work her shift? What is with people who tell you they want more hours and then don't work when they could? Did she get fired? I would have fired her for her attitude.

Pam! So glad to hear from you and that, like you say, the news is as good as can be expected. PLEASE remind me, if you can, close to when the lumpectomy is...I am so forgetful and I don't want to forget that. Glad to know you may have your computer back soon, too! quote:
Did she get fired? I would have fired her for her attitude. Ha. You can't just fire someone. You have to jump through hoops to cover your keister. Otherwise they'll make all kinds of claims against you (for unemployment, etc.) and, possibly, try to sue you. So she got a written warning today. I'm expecting a call any minute telling me that she walked out over it.

But if she walks out, doesn't that mean she gets no chance at unemployment?

{{euty}} my condolencences What Lion said is true... pain for the good employees.. unfortunately.. and the managers that don't want to deal with the hassle. If she is part time i don't even know if she earned enough for unemployment.. but it depends on the state.

What Lion said is true... pain for the good employees It absolutely is. It isn't at all fair to the good ones. quote:
If she is part time i don't even know if she earned enough for unemployment.. but it depends on the state. Right. What happens is, a year (and several jobs) from now she could file for unemployment and what she could claim against me is whatever percentage of her total earnings were paid by me. I then have to fill out dozens of forms and the only way I can be relieved of those charges is if she a) quit or b) was fired with adequate (meaning tons of) documentation of misconduct. Part-time or full-time doesn't matter.
