Welcome to 2010! I love to talk about my life, my ideas, God, and anything else that comes to mind. Sometimes I post long tomes. Other times I disappear for a bit. Whatever happens, God is in control and God is good. God has been good and in control through 36 years of marriage--most of those very painful. God has been good and in control as I have sought to honour him in my thought and sexual life. God was good and in control all last year as my family worked to help and support my son, ds3, through his struggle with mental illness. God was good and in control the night that same son took his life and he has been good and in control since. Regardless of what happens this year, God is in control and God is always good. When I forget this, please remind me!

I love to hear about the life journeys of my friends--old and new--so please feel free to share your triumphs, struggles and the mundane. Blessings on each of you.

Hi Maggie, interesting new title!

Up to a couple of moments ago I was settled with the new name, but right now I am not so sure yet.

Maggie, glad you started the new thread! My screen is throwing a wobbly and won't allow me to scroll sideways so I couldn't read all of your post but I got the fact you started a new thread!

Patricia! Welcome! New Year Blessings to you too!

Mike, you're hardly brand new. Maybe something like BeenHereALongTime?

Stovie, did the long link mess up that last post of mine? Sorry about that.

Today's been a busy day. For new people coming in, I'll give a short recap. Our son is getting married tomorrow. We arrived a week and a half ago to spend some time with him before his wedding. I get exhausted very easily these days so my plan was to spend yesterday and today doing nothing. Ha! Fat chance!

Dh's brother arrived yesterday morning. Today dh and I needed to pick up the rings that were made for us and, since it was lunch time, my bil took us out to eat afterwards. It was all in a busy area so we had to find a place to park and then walk, first to the jewelry store, then to the restaurant and then bil wanted to check out a bookstore he had seen while he and dh got lost looking for the restaurant. I had wanted to stop at the bank to get some needed coins for tomorrow, forgetting that banks are closed on New Year's Day, so they went ahead of me. But they didn't see it and walked further than they needed to before they began to wander back, wondering where it was. I saw it right away and had taken the steps up only to find that they weren't there ahead of me like I had expected. Anyway, there was a lot of walking--not much for most people but with my bad knee it was more than enough.

Then off to the airport to pick up my mom. I had looked at the map before we'd left the motel and had written the names of the streets that we were to take, but one turn seemed wrong, so I stopped to double-check the map. Nope! We were going the right way. Found the airport okay, found the airport parking okay, found the exit from the parking to the terminal okay. Whew! We even found my mom without any trouble. We were parked for maybe half an hour. Eight dollars! Eight dollars? Yikes! That's robbery! I thought it was bad enough when we were in the not-quite-downtown area and had to pay a quarter for every ten minutes. Sheesh!

Leaving the airport I had to go on my memory of picking up my bil yesterday. Could I remember accurately? Again I stopped to double check. Yep! After we'd been driving for a bit, I realized I needed to call ds4--the groom-to-be. He needs to be moved out of his apartment tonight, before the wedding. Everything is packed, but he needs my van to move it.

So, after calling him, I drove to his place instead of to the motel where we're staying. The problem was that I decided to try the shorter route that ds1 had suggested this morning. Bad idea! I got all turned around so again I had to stop to consult the map. Lo and behold, I had missed the turn by one block only! So back we went and eventually to ds4's place. He gets in the car with me, dh, bil and my mom and off we go to the motel so that we can be dropped off and he can use the vehicle.

All the while, including the walking we'd done before and after lunch, it was raining--hard! I looked like a drowned rat! I'd been worrying about what I'll do with my hair tomorrow morning but if it's going to be raining, there's no point trying to do anything special. It will get all messed up with the rain and humidity anyway. Should be interesting.

We hadn't been at the motel for long when my sister showed up. She flew from Detroit to Seattle and then drove a rental up here to Vancouver. She, my mom and bil were hungry. Dh said, "We just ate!" Crazy man! I really need to rest but there's a nice restaurant across the street so I thought I could take them there, spend a bit of time with them and then leave them to come back to rest and then sleep. The restaurant was closed! It's usually open till 10:00. What's up? Oh! It's New Year's Day! A holiday! Sigh. Now what?

As we stood outside the restaurant trying to decide what to do, the owner came out, apologized for being closed and gave us two coupons for $10 off each! Wow! For sure we'll find a way to use them! My sister has the rental car so I sent them to the restaurant we ate our Christmas Eve meal at--if it was open then, it should be open tonight--and came back to my room. I hope to be in bed my 8:00. I wonder how successful I'll be at that.

The boys will be up late, I'm thinking. The plan is that all three (including the groom) will be spending the night at the hotel. The reasoning is that it's easier to coordinate wedding-day rides if everyone is at the same place. But first they have to finish moving ds4 to his new marital home. Before they do that, however, they have to use his printer to print out the various speeches they all will make. Ds4 and Ds1 will do the moving; ds2 and his gf will clean the apartment while the first two are moving. Are all pre-wedding nights so busy?

I'm tired. Exhausted. I hope I sleep well.

Oh! One interesting tidbit. While we were walking around in the rain, I noticed that some of the curbs were granite instead of cement. I've never seen anything like that! Very cool!

Tomorrow the wedding proceedings begin for the family at 9:30 a.m. We have to eat a good breakfast and take something to eat mid-day because no meal has been planned before the 7:00 banquet and we'll have to eat before then! So many things to think about.

I hope it's a wonderful day for your son and his new wife. Also a special day for you and your family. Once the wedding is over, then hopefully you'll get more of a chance to rest.

Hello, Maggie!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wish so many people wouldn't have changed their name to start off the new year! With the restarting of all the threads, it makes stuff even more confusing.
You're welcome! I was surprised to learn that sending Christmas cards to Austrailia takes three stamps (for those too lazy to stand in line and buy one exact-amount stamp).
Yeah I am trying to rehabilitate and reform. Besides people call me so many different names that in my partzheimers stage of life I never know who I am--need to simplify.
I like when people put who they used to be in their siggy for a bit. It helps.
Hi Magdaleine! If you're not worn out too much I hope you're back on telling us all about the wedding. I'll go get my kleenex .
Praying for your safety on the trip back home, too. Be careful!
I thought about changing mine, but I ran out of creative ideas.
Yeah, but I at least confused Maggie as to who I was. It doesn't help that I have it listed underneath my name as opposed to in my signature, which I have no plans of changing at at the moment.
