Linz is still sick, and the sores are spreading. They sort of look like impetigo sores. I hate Impetigo!!! Ty gets this often enough! Oh what a day! Worked in Art again today, did an inventory of construction paper both in the Art room and the teachers workroom, and prepared art materials for all of the day's classes tomorrow. I also purchased two science fair boards that I proceeded to leave at the school. I'll have Brian run by and pick them up tomorrow after he's done with his class. Tomorrow - The laundry. Then tomorrow night we are going to a family night thing at the college Brian attends. One of our good friends is doing the children's part of the night and she is an amazing storyteller! Gotta run now. Blessings, Garsy

You know, at 10:30 they have a nutrition break. It is only .80 a day and they get things like French Toast sticks, oranges, apple juice and milk. Then in an hour and a half, they go to lunch. I don't mind sending my kids to school with no breakfast because I know they are getting more than they would eat in any meal I gave them in their nutrition break. They even refuse breakfast sometimes because they say they are not hungry for nutrition break then, and they like that food better than the cereal I give to them in the mornings.

The snow won't be here until 3-4 PM and then it will be light-ish for a while. My kids heard the time but not afternoon and asked if there was a 2-hour delay. Nope, PM, sweet-peas. So, early dismissal? Nope, not that much that fast here. BigBee said "Stupid snow, why can't you do something USEFUL" This from the child who was in Pittsburgh instead of school yesterday for the college fair. We are north enough it won't be as worry-some for us, but I wish they'd cancel basketball tomorrow. Just because I don't like running like that. Off to work.

The snow didn't start until about an hour ago so there was no delay. However, the schools are dismissing early. Areas west of us are supposed to get 3-6" and east of us are supposed to get 4-8" so I'm not sure how much we're supposed to get. We're having a Superbowl party. I had to get a few last minute things, but I'm not sure how the roads will be tonight and tomorrow and I try very hard not to shop on Sundays. I went this morning and I'm glad I did. Now I'm back home sipping hot tea and watching that dreaded stuff fall from the sky.

I found out I was making home made pizza on Sunday - I forgot about that. I've been stressed. And, I made a wager with my sweetie about the game and now I may have to pay up...not only did I suggest loser plans a night out, I included the 'find a place for the kids' in it. Then he explain why his team would win and I'm can't find a weak spot in his argument. So, I may be cooking and fuming... :) It is all fun.

That is hard Kath, I know you've done everything you can to help him. Auben, glad to hear how things are going! I understand about Isaac and the friend thing. Do you get a good feeling about the school working with what Luke needs? Tracy, my 6yo doesn't eat much breakfast at all some mornings; she gets a small morning snack but not as good as your kids get. They do figure out how to get enough to eat. I hope all who want snow get it, and that the snow will stay away from those who don't want it! I wouldn't mind another good snow, but if school is canceled then who knows when they will make it up. So maybe not. We are too far west and south I think to get much from this storm. We got a little last night, but it has already melted. Dee Dee

I have no idea how the school will work with Luke. I think well, but I haven't seen that side of the system yet. Luke might start out with an IEP. They'll definitely need a medical plan. The problem is that his condition is delicate and very changeable. He's mostly on-track at the moment (a little behind on large motor skills like running). Another lady I shadow online had good luck their first year (with an IEP, aide, etc) but he did so well they terminated the IEP and now he's falling behind again in a standard first grade classroom. I'm not too afraid of bringing him home for homeschooling, but I've micromanaged his diet for so long (to keep the seizures away) that I'm nervous about letting go. I don't know how I can expect the same level of detail in a classroom, kwim? I just don't know what will happen. I keep forgetting it's the superbowl this weekend. We usually go shopping, no one watches football here unless Grampa is visiting.

Tamera, three examples, two districts... - Severe nut allergy - special table, no-nut signs. Not so-severe nut allergy - reminders at the bottom of the 'it's a party' papers that the classroom is a nut-free zone.
- Crohns - Kiddo brought Pedi-Ensure in and the teacher served that instead of milk without a mention or fuss. He was allowed to eat out of his packed lunch during 'down-time' to keep his digestive system from being stressed (sorry, folks - that oversimplifies what his mom said to me)
- Gluten-free diet. The cafeteria sent the menu home to mom early, so she could shop for gluten-free subsitutes that they will prepare for the student. Today is chicken nugget day? The young lady has nuggets too, hers just came out of a different box.
It can be done. And, I have the Saints and he has Manning on the theory that Manning will be well-protected by the refs. eta: We had to get our tax refund ASAP to pay the portion due on the car at the end of the month. There is enough left over that I actually, for one brief second, thought I could BUY something. Like a belt to hold my pants up. Grey dress pants that don't show my undies. Pay off some small bills. The difference on 4 pair of glasses (between insurance allowance and our 'want list') Maybe a fridge that didn't FREEZE our food - I suppose that should be first but oh, those pants cause me fits...but then. . . The snow blower motor went this afternoon. We have a foot of snow. After 9 years of use, it can be replaced without regret. And THEN. . . The stove started its own fits tonight. After 19 years, and the loss of a burner years ago and the holes in the oven, it also should be on a list anyhow, but it wasn't. Now it is. So, I went from being excited about shopping for pants, I am depressed about shopping for appliances...

Tamara, the special diet that Luke has, is it the ketogenic one? My 17 month old is epileptic (newly diagnosed), so I've been reading up a lot on the various options, including the ketogenic diet. It is very much a challenge to surrender control to a school or other institute/group/whatever when you know what to watch for, what to do if a seizure occurs, etc. Just a thought, what about making up a detailed sheet specifying that Luke is on a medically necessary diet, along with info about the epilepsy and what to do in an emergency (along with your contact info). Then print it out on RED paper, making several copies (at least 5). Then make an appointment at the school to meet with the principal and Luke's teacher-to-be. Take those sheets with you to the appointment and request that one be posted in the staff room, one should be kept with his file in the office, one in the nurse's office (if the school has one) and one in the classroom. This leaves at least one extra if something happens to one of the copies. It is in red so it can easily be identified if a seizure occurs, plus it draws the staff's attention to the fact that he NEEDS to maintain his special diet, and that straying from it could/would result in him having more seizures. Just an idea from a mom who has BTDT with a son who is allergic to chocolate, soy, and food dyes. You'll also need to make sure that Luke knows that if someone offers him something to eat (a schoolmate, another parent, etc) that he needs to check with you that it is okay (via a phone call or whatever). Hope this helps.

Tamara - we have a mom here that just asked that her boys be allowed to microwave their carried from home lunches (basically because they were so tired of cold food all the time) and when the school and district administration balked at that she took it to the state level and the school now has to PROVIDE both of her boys with their special diets. We also have 2 children in two different grades now that have very serious nut allergies. Provisions have been made and the school has a separate table in the lunch room that is labeled "No Nuts Please." My Zoe is allergic to strawberries and thus when strawberries are served as an option the school happily agreed to provide a second fruit choice for her. I do know that our child that has Chrons and has since moved to the middle school brought her own lunch everyday and was provided with a place to store supplements in her classroom should she need them. If I were you I'd talk first to the schools primary clinic nurse. BEFORE the first day of school make sure his teacher knows in great detail what he can and cannot have. And also talk to the kitchen staff. EVERYONE needs to be on the same page with things like this. Blessings, Garsy

Tamara, I am sorry you are having a hard time with your child. We had a hard time in the beginning of the year, but that was because they were supposed to put together a special curriculum for Kali and they didn't, long story short, they did too little too late, then we heard about how we were trying to "push" her too hard and needed to back off. We are not happy. But at least it will all work itself out eventually. I didn't watch the superbowl. It wasn't a good weekend for me and I had alot to do. Tonight, we are supposed to get a snowstorm that is supposed to take us into tomorrow and leave us with 11 to 14 inches. I remember when that was normal, but now it is so unusual around here that everybody is going into stockpiling mode.

Tracy - I am to the north of the bulk of the storm and my co-workers were talking about 3 feet of snow. One that will be in a hotel all week due to a lack of power/heat. It seems odd to say 'I ONLY got a foot or so'. Now, things are cancelling for tomorrow and Wednesday. I tell the kids you know it is serious when they cancel BINGO. :)

LOL, You know, I don't think I ever saw bingo cancelled around here. Those people are serious about that. DO NOT talk, get up, or drop anything while they are playing. A person could be killed. Well, if we only get a foot of snow, that wouldn't be so bad for around here. So far this winter, we have had one small storm and for all but a few days, we have been able to see our grass and sidewalks without having to shovel them more than twice. I am really looking forward to seeing my puppy playing in a foot of snow. That would be fun.

So, how much did you get over the weekend if they are calling for 10-14 now? We were 'lucky' it was so cold. Our snow stayed fluffy. Further south it was 32° and heavy, wet snow instead.

We didn't get any over the weekend, but we got almost an inch today. The rest is supposed to come tonight and tomorrow.
