That was great timing to be in the bathroom, Mike! I usually think that I'll just happen to have to use the bathroom about that time, but then I worry about people coming to find me and pushing me out there.

It just worked out that way. I guess the pressure is harder one women than it is men although it can be equally hard for both sexes.

It all depends on your friends... guys can have pushy friends too. And family!! I think if I ever get married, I will just skip all the tosses. Though I know there will be a few who will be disappointed, so who knows what I'll do.

I have to ask, Steve Taylor came out with a song back in the late 80's called Bouquet. It was a song about someone who dropped the bouquet. Is that bad luck or something?

When/If I get married, I'll be giving my bouquet to the couple there who's been married the longest. Might as well honor the institute of marriage instead of making a joke out of it!

I'm not opposed to the cutting the cake tradition, so at least that tradition will be preserved. Can't wait to smear some cake!

Hey, y'all!! I hope you had a day full of the Lord today!

Hey, Barbi! Good to see you... how have you been?

WomanofGod... nice to meet you. That's so cool that you caught the bouquet!! I never have... guess that's why I'm still single.

Nice to meet you too. Yesterday was my first time catching the bouquet. I know that you will catch the bouquet someday just like I did. But I had a good time at the wedding. The wedding ceremony was nice. Me and my friend, Melanie were talking while the bride & groom, and wedding party were taking pictures. We were talking about how happy we were for the bride & groom and I told her that we're going to be next. Then we talked where we would have our weddings. And later on at the reception, I caught the bouquet. My pastor knew that I was going to catch the bouquet even before the bride threw the bouquet to the single ladies.

I'm definitely skipping it. I always hated being shoved to the front by my well intentioned aunts and cousins and don't plan on putting anyone in the spotlight at my wedding.

But I do plan on having fun so that counts for something, right?

Now that's one tradition I will KILL over. My ex was just about to smear me with cake when the photographer yelled, "Don't! We still have to take more pictures!" When our former pastor was married his wife told him, "If you stuff that cake on my face it will be the only pleasure you get tonight." Amazingly he was well behaved.

Tink. . . I would have figured you to be the type to be quite 'into' that part of things! My brother and SIL got each other pretty good. It's the best picture I have of the two of them at their wedding.

Your pastors wife is a smart woman. I always thought that the whole cake smearing thing was rather childish not to mention very disrespectful of your new spouse. Think about this, if you did the same thing to your spouse in any other setting it would be considered abusive.

I'm fairly prissy which doesn't show much here online. Plus I don't like to be embarrassed.

Partially agree. It is very childesh and disrespectful, but it's no different than a food fight and I'm sure I'll have plenty of those in my life. Especially if Thing 2 has anything to do with it.

Nah. . . childish maybe. . . but some couples are playful and aren't so serious all the time. It would be disrespectful if one or the other knew the other would be mad or embarrassed, but still chose to smear away anyway. That wouldn't be cool. . .

I hope to have a relationship someday where we can be cooking or doing dishes and the next thing be chasing each other around with mashed potatoes. I wouldn't at all consider that abusive. . .

To each his own. And I definitely think that's something to talk about before hand. Being that I'm not big on being the center of attention, I don't think I would be making a huge mess, but I'm not all delicate either. And you can bet that I'll be just a tad bit gitty on my wedding day, since I've wondered if the day would ever come!

Playful has nothing to do with it, IMO it's disrepectful to the new marriage as well as the new spouse.

I'll amend what I said to say any other public venue. What if you saw a couple do the same thing in a restaurant? I would bet the police would show up pretty quickly. If you wanted to do that at home that would be OK. But I can see, with the wrong type of person, that escalating pretty quickly into abuse.

I'll ditto that...........as long as it wasn't on carpet. Too much of my background in cleaning showing up I suppose. Mashed potatos are a pain to extract from carpet or fabric, I know from experience.

I guess that's whats funny; I looove being the centre of attention; I just don't like to be embarrassed or unprissified in order to do so. I'm weird that way...LOL

That is kinda funny! I'm the exact opposite of you then. I don't like being the center of attention, but my playfulness might trump that fear on the big day.

Who am I kidding though! If I get married, it will likely be a small ceremony with just family and close friends.

I was just trying to find out where the cake smashing "tradition" if you can call it that came from. I can't really find anything. Feeding each other cake was mentioned and that sybolizes unity.

I ended up reading a bunch of wedding forums trying to figure it out and most the brides-to-be who posted did not like it a bit. Many said it better not happen. One even told her fiance if he did it he better have a lawyer present b/c it would be a very short marriage. Another said she "didn't see why anyone would want a 'Jerry Springer' moment at their wedding".

IMO, it's not worth it to the groom to shove cake in my face. It could very detrimental to the well being of his marriage.

In other news, a local meteorologist reported today that "for all intents and purposes, winter is over"!!! He is forecasting one more snow event the third week of March, but that's it! And it's supposed to be in the mid-50's here later this week (with rain, but I'm not complaining)!!
